Chez moi, Debian stable:
anesth1:~# export  LANG=C
anesth1:~# ls /usr/bin/m*[A-Z]*
/usr/bin/macptopbm 
      /usr/bin/make_unicodemap	
/usr/bin/mdu 
		/usr/bin/mkafmmap    /usr/bin/modemlights_applet	....

idem avec
export  LANG=fr_CH
